archetype = basic storytelling pattern protagonist = the leading character STAGE 1: DEPARTURE / BEGINNING / EXPOSITION: The hero's normal life is revealed (character traits, setting). The hero is faced with problem or challenge which makes the adventure begin. At first, fear will make the hero refuse to start the adventure UNTIL another character offers the hero advice and prepares him/her for the journey. STAGE 2: INITIATION / MIDDLE / CLIMAX: The hero leaves the ordinary world and crosses into adventure and begins a series of tests/trials. The hero learns the rules of his new world, meets friends, and comes face to face with enemies. Setbacks occur which may cause the hero to try a new approach/ideas. The hero experiences a major obstacle (life or death). After surviving death, the hero earns his reward or accomplishes his goal. STAGE 3: RETURN / END / RESOLUTION: The hero returns to his ordinary life where he faces a final test. The hero uses everything he has learned since survival is now at stake. The hero brings his knowledge, potion, item back to the ordinary world where he uses it to help others.
